Gambia appeal up and running

From the archive, first published Wednesday 25th Sep 2002.

THIS week the Droitwich Spa Advertiser is launching a new appeal to raise much-needed cash for The Gambia.

Your number one community newspaper has teamed up with Bob Powell - who featured in last week's paper - to raise £3,100 for a Gambian school.

The 55-year-old, along with support from his friends, has been raising money for The Gambia for the last five years and has now taken on a new challenge. Some of the equipment and money that Bob has raised over the years has been donated to St Joseph's Secondary, a school in Banjul, in The Gambia.

The playground at the school is very run down and in desperate need of repair, so Bob has turned to our readers to help raise the cash for a brand new play area.

Bob, who works at Exel on the Berry Hill Industrial Estate, said: "To be able to raise this money for the youngsters would be absolutely fantastic.

"Anyone that is kind enough to donate money to the appeal can be sure that it will, without a doubt, go to such a worthwhile cause and will bring smiles back to so many faces."

If you've got a money-spinning idea to raise cash for the appeal, give our Droitwich reporter Emma Needle a ring on 01905 795097, or call Bob on 01905 794777.

Or, if you can spare a few pounds, you pay in cheques, which should be made payable to The Bob Powell Gambia Project, at any Lloyds TSB.

Bob has set up an account ready for your donations. The account number is 21841268 and the sort code is 77-85-67.
