Chaddesley and Bewdley call for derby day calm

THERE will be fireworks when Chaddesley Corbett and Bewdley Reserves clash in the Wyre Forest derby on Bonfire weekend.

But rival bosses Gary Moore and Rich Downey have made a pre-match pact that the Division Two fixture will be contested in a sporting manner.

Corbett will be buoyed by a 5-1 Worcestershire Junior Cup victory at Feckenham Reserves last weekend. Despite trailing to a first-half goals, they hit back with braces from Josh Baker and Marvin Whitter and a Steve Hawkes rocket.

Manager Moore played in goal but will watch his first Wyre Forest derby from the dugout with regular stopper Stuart Brookes available.

"I've heard this one's supposed to be on the same level as Liverpool v Everton so I'm expecting there to be fireworks! " said Moore.

"I've always been of the opinion that you get fired up for every game you play, but apparently this is the big one for Chaddesley and Bewdley.

"I've spoken to Rich Downey and we've both agreed that if there's any kind of trouble we'll stamp it out straight away."

Passion Bewdley are also in confident mood after coming through a marathon Junior Cup match at Perrywood to win on penalties. It was 2-2 after extra-time after Perrywood equalised strikes from Gary Middleton and Chris Fellows.

Keeper Aaron O'Malley was the hero, saving two spot-kicks in the shootout as Bewdley won 4-3, but he damaged his fingers and is a doubt for Saturday.

Boss Downey - a former Chaddesley manager - is looking forward to the clash, but is echoing his opposite number's calls for calm.

"I've never sent a team out to go and hurt anybody but we will go out looking to win," he said.

"I'm sure it won't be a pretty game, I've been involved in four now and there's so much passion.

"But I've been in touch with Gary and although things have been a bit strained with me and Chaddesley in the past I want it to be harmonious."

Bewdley under-18s improved beat Tividale 6-2 in the Midland Floodlit Youth League Western Division with goals from James Cronin, Toby Horton, Ollie Smith, Eddie Cowen, Dan Jones and Josh Grubb.
