AT Bromsgrove Petty Sessions Emma Leat, of Barley Mow Lane, Little Catshill, was fined 5s and 13s costs for using indecent language in her own house in the hearing of Barley Mow Lane. PC Vickeredge stated the woman used the most filthy language for three quarters of an hour.  more...

50 Years Ago, August 24, 1957

METHODISTS of the Bromsgrove circuit filled the Golden Cross Lane, Catshill, church, to overflowing when they united to pay tribute to the Rev and Mrs J Wesley Homer at a farewell service. Mr Homer had been superintendent minister since 1945 and had now retired from the active ministry at the end of 40 years. Of these, 18 were spent in Bromsgrove for he was minister from 1931-37 and returned at the end of the war. "He put the Gospel before us in a way we could understand," said chairman of the meeting Mr T H Griffin. After speeches Mr Griffin presented Mr Homer with a cheque and Mr Homer expressed his thanks for all that had been done for his wife and himself.  more...

ACTION Man visited Roy's Hobbies and Toys, in Rubery, as large as life. The pint-sized children's hero was played by an actor. Action Man presented badges, signed posters and handed over competition prizes for around 300 children. CYCLING CLUB - There is one ride this Sunday. The A ride starts at 8am and visits Kilpeck Church near Hereford. The ride leaves The Green, Blakebrook, opposite the hospital. All cyclists will be welcome and should bring a packed lunch. The B ride group is away on a Youth Hostel weekend.  more...
