From the Redditch Advertiser, first published Friday 23rd May 2008.
THE Redditch Alliance of Greens (RAG) is inviting school pupils across the town to take part in an eco-friendly poster competition.
In conjunction with World Environment Day, on Thursday, June 5 the competition hopes to raise awareness of environmental issues and encourage children to think about their personal impact on the planet.
The competition has three categories - first, middle and high schools.
Kevin White of RAG said: "The World Environment Day slogan for 2008 is Kick the Habit! Towards a Low Carbon Economy.
"In line with this theme, we're inviting children to draw or paint posters which focus on greenhouse gas emissions and how to reduce them.
"Posters could highlight energy efficiency, renewable energy sources, eco-friendly consumption and should be relevant to, or feature, Redditch in some way."
The winning posters will be displayed at the Redditch Green Fair at St Stephen's Church on Saturday, June 7.
The fair, now in its third year, sees a number of stalls promoting eco-friendly, fair trade, organic and natural products, alongside information to help people live a greener life.
Mr White added: "Children are the future. It's vital that we instil in them at an early age the importance of caring for the environment.
"With any luck, having drawn their posters, children will then bring their parents to the fair to learn more about sustainable, eco-friendly living."
